THE COURSE
Aquella offers an experience that will satisfy golfers of all levels, from beginners through to professional golfers, the stunning course will leave all in awe of 18 holes measuring over 7,000 yards as golfers navigate the gently undulating terrain sculpted to take in panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and nearby mountains. Award-winning Australian golf course architects – Pacific Golf Coast Design (PCD) have transformed the site into a championship standard layout carpeted using pristine Paspalum Platinum Grass. The course offers narrow gently rolling fairways that are only intersected stunning strategically placed bunkers, of which the faces are constructed with vintage railway sleepers, these features are sure to test the strategic minds, along with accuracy from the tee and approaches to the greens.
The course presents beauty and challenges through the meandering waterways and lakes, many of which are tidal giving golfers a range of visual delights depending on the time of day. The landscape of the golf course has been carefully selected to focus on sustainability and visual impact, using colourful tropical vegetation, several of which are native to the Aquella site, all of which will be a haven for wildlife for golfers to enjoy. Once on the greens, subtle borrows that offer up some excellent testing pin positions are sure to hold the player’s concentration levels and make for some great competitive games.
The Par-3 Hole 11 has been designed as the course’s signature hole. With spectacular views and sounds of the Andaman Sea from every vantage point, it’s a joy to the senses; it serves as the perfect contrast between nature and golf. Golfers will enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves crashing in the background, along with the cooling breezes of the ocean, that may take your mind off the challenges this hole has to offer. Although the hole is relatively short, some 161 yards from the White tee, the green is guarded by the two large intimidating bunkers at the front left and right side of the green, the green has a steep run off at the back so distance control on all shots will be paramount to navigate this hole and walk off with a well-deserved Par 3.
The course design has an element of adventure, with buggy rides between holes taking the golfer through specially crafted bamboo tunnels, which golfers pass through, these have a visual sensory effect in that they block surrounding views then ‘open up’ to a new view at the end giving golfers a new perspective on highlighted holes. The journey through the tunnels also has a cooling effect due to the shade and wind tunnel combination, just another unique experience at Aquella.
